Dr. Sylvia A. Newbold gives a talk at the Achucarro Internal Seminar Series🧠📣

October 02, 2026

Dr. Sylvia A. Newbold, Postdoctoral Researcher in the Astiz Lab, gave the talk entitled “Building the Circadian Clock: From developmental trajectories to function” as part of the Achucarro Internal Seminar Series 2026.

Sylvia took the stage to explain her work towards understanding the contribution of maternal and environmental signals to the development of the Suprachiasmatic Nucleui (SCN), the central circadian clock. During her talk, Sylvia gave a very good overview of the approaches and single-nuclei RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) datasets that she is using to study the gliogenesis in the SCN as well as the characteristics of this GABAergic circuit. This research line is part of the ERC-funded StarTicking project which seeks to answer the long-standing question in the field: when and how the circadian clock starts to tick.

Sylvia’s great job resulted in many interesting questions and well-deserved congratulations.

Well done, Sylvia! 👏🏽
